  • Why is the vocal phrasing of some of the songs different from either the recording or sheet music I have?
First of all, we have rarely found that the original recording of a song and the corresponding the sheet music to be the same. Quite often on the original recording of a song the artist interprets the song to fit his or her unique style, which quite often is not very “congregationally friendly”. By this we mean, that the artist will often take liberties with the phrasing and melody that in some cases are too difficult for the average person to sing or learn within the context of a typical congregation. At the other extreme, the sheet music will often be very simplified in an attempt to make the melody and phrasing more conducive to congregational singing. We have made an effort to take the best elements from both the recording and the sheet music to create our vocal part audio files.

IMPORTANT: We have taken great care NOT to “stylize” the vocal performances of the songs in any way. We feel that the final finessing of phrasing and nuance should be left up to the individual leaders to fit their unique style.

  • The recording I have of the song is in a different key than the one found on the website…why?
Often times the artist / songwriter recording of the song is recorded in a key that fits their vocal range without necessarily taking into account the vocal range of the average church member. We decided to record the vocal parts in a ‘user friendly’ key. In general, we do not go above a ‘D’ for the soprano voice.

  • What if we want to sing a song in a different key than the one the vocal parts are recorded in?
Think of learning a vocal harmony part as simply learning an alternate melody. Once the part is learned, the “alternate melody” or harmony part will translate to any key you choose. Our experience has been that adapting the vocal part to a new key does not present a problem. Also, keep in mind that we offer Rehearsal Tracks. In most cases we record them in 2 or even 3 keys just for this reason.

  • I notice that each of the audio files (songs) has only one verse, one chorus and a bridge, if there is one. Why didn’t you record the entire song?
For two reasons; 1) We decided to record every element of the song that has a vocal harmony only one time because the other verses and choruses of a song will typically have the exact or very similar harmonic structure and phrasing, 2) One of the core reasons we have developed praisevocals.com is to save you and your vocal team time! Recording each vocal harmony song element only once assists in this. After your church has learned a particular song and your singers are merely reviewing their harmony parts it will save them time not having to listen to the entire song.

  • Why do you often start each audio file with the second verse of the song instead of the first?
A typical contemporary praise song structure is: Verse 1 – Chorus – Verse 2 – Chorus – Bridge – Chorus - Chorus. By starting the vocal part file with Verse 2, we can usually cover all of the vocal harmony elements for the song in its natural flow. In this case, Verse 2 – Chorus – Bridge.

  • Why are there harmony parts in some of the songs in the praisevocals.com catalog that don’t exist on the original song recording?
It’s easier to NOT sing a harmony part that’s there than to make one up when you want one. We decided that it would be better to have all of the harmonies included on the vocal track and let you make the final decision as to when or where the harmony is used. It comes down to personal taste. Very often it is more effective to have all of the vocalists sing the melody together for the first couple of times through a certain section and then add more harmonies as you progress through a song segment or through the song as a whole.

  • What if I need more than one download of the song due to a technical problem or computer crash?
No problem. Just email us and we’ll make sure to assign you more downloads in these types of cases.

  • I submitted a song request a few months ago but so far the vocal parts haven’t been uploaded…why not?
We decide on which songs to upload based on overall popularity or number of times that a song is requested.

  • We already do many of the songs in the catalog. How will praisevocals.com help me?
We’ve found that it’s just as important to have vocal parts for old songs as new ones. Even if we’ve done a song for a few months or haven’t done an older song for a year or more, having the vocals parts on hand to review each week saves time…period. Further, some churches have multiple vocal teams who only sing sporadically. Our experience has been that the singers really appreciate having their part on hand to review.

  • I'm having trouble DOWNLOADING or STREAMING the files.  What could be the problem?
PraiseVocals.com’s web site has been thoroughly tested and is functioning as it should be.  There are any number of reasons why someone may experience a problem listening to or downloading on the user end. They are as varied as there are operating systems, browsers and Internet Service Providers (ISP’s).  We cannot account for user’s local environments.  Following are a few possible reasons why you may experience download or streaming problems and some suggestions for you to try and fix your problem:

KNOWN USER-END DOWNLOADING ISSUES:
1) Single click ONLY on a song mix file.  Double clicking will result in a system error.
2)  Attempting to download more than one song file at a time.  To ensure that you receive all of your song file downloads in their entirety, ONLY ATTEMPT TO DOWNLOAD ONE SONG FILE AT A TIME.  Wait until each file has completely downloaded before moving on to another song file download.
3)  A bad or weak Internet connection or wireless connection. Confirm that you can navigate to other sites on the Internet and browse content.
Interference on your wireless connection. For example, microwave ovens often interfere with wireless computer connections.
4)  Being logged in to the site from two windows (browsers) or two computers at the same time.
5)  A momentary Internet interruption during a download. This is especially likely with a dial up modem.
6)  Old versions of software on your computer. Keep all software up to date especially your browser version and operating system.
7)  Virus protection software. Check your configuration settings.  Some users have their browsers set up to only allow downloads from a list of “Trusted Sites” that they have added to  their "white list" or "trusted Internet sites" lists.  A browser may prompt the user on the first attempt to download from the server, to decide whether they want to "trust this site" and allow the download.
8)  A "server not recognized" message is something that is generated by a user’s local computer. It is most likely the result of a firewall/security setting or some other protection/virus scanning software that is installed.
9)  Not waiting until a file has completely downloaded.  When downloading a file, make sure that you wait until the entire file has completed the download process BEFORE attempting to do anything else with the file such as ‘Listen’ to it as you are downloading.
10) Single click ONLY on a song mix file.  Double clicking will result in a system error.

*IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have had an unsuccessful file download and PV.com issues you an additional download for the same file, you should CLEAR YOUR CACHE and QUIT YOUR BROWSER before attempting the download.

STREAMING (LISTENING)
ISSUES
1)  A momentary Internet interruption during a download. This is especially likely with a dial up modem.
2)  An older computer may not have the processing capability needed.
3)  An older version of Flash player.  You can download the latest version for your browser for free here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/
4)  A “404” error means the requested url is not being found. This could be a problem with your browser cache. We suggest you clear the cache, close the browser and try again. Try rebooting your computer if this fails.

"Praisevocals is a brilliant idea that has been missing from the music ministry for far too long! I have no doubt that this will become a valuable and indispensable tool for many worship teams. Tell your other worship leading friends about this one – they’ll owe you big-time!”
